Duties & Responsibilities This position is a 12-monthcontinuing/continuing-eligible appointment with 65% Extension, 25% Research,and 10% Services at the rank of Assistant/Associate Specialist in the School ofAnimal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS).It is expected that the successful applicantwill conduct collaborative research with emphasis on beef cattle but also onsmall ruminants.
Work closely with the state extension office, state producers, and haveaccess to large and small animal facilities, including the AgriculturalResearch Center (which includes facilities for environmental control of largeanimals), the V-Bar-V Ranch, the Santa Rita Experimental Ranch, the Food ProductSafety Laboratory, and the Animal Feeding Facility.
The successfulcandidate will be expected to deliver statewide Extension programming that isindustry-responsive, proactive, and related to management of livestock,including tribal producers. They are expected to collaborate with existingfaculty members both on and off campus, and to increase the impact andvisibility of the animal science program. Extension and Research efforts shouldbe organized and conducted in cooperation with other statewide faculty, countyExtension faculty, and federal and state agency representatives. The facultymember will actively seek contract and grant funding to support this program.Communication of research results in appropriate peer-reviewed journals andscientific and trade publications is an essential requirement of this position.
The new faculty member will join a highly productive and innovativegroup of faculty working to address opportunities using available industry genetic tools to enhancelivestock production management, advising onbreeding and marketing strategies related to genetic selection, in addition toeffectively communicating on the decision-making tools available for livestockgenetic improvement. In particular, we are interested in applicantswho can complement existing Extension expertise in nutrition, animalphysiology, genetics, and animal diseases. We prefer candidates whose Extension and Research program will befocused on economicallyand environmentally sustainable animal production through on-farm geneticselection and livestock improvement.
The successful candidate will provide a research environment to supportundergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars that isinclusive, supportive, and intellectually challenging. The candidate willdemonstrate excellent communication skills working with industry stakeholdersand researchers and contribute more broadly to College and University strategicgoals.

- Ph.D. or equivalent in animal sciences, biotechnology, or related field.
- Experience with livestock production systems.
- Demonstrated experience working with livestock producers and industry stakeholders.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
- Experience in Extension in livestock management and biotechnology
- Research experience in animal sciences

- Demonstrated history of peer-reviewed original research publications in recognized scientific journals
