The Stanford University Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director, Technical Operations. Reporting to the Associate Director, Technical Operations, this position is responsible for audio/video equipment and content management, as well as the day-to-day operations and staffing for events. The Assistant Director, Technical Operations will work with athletics department coaches and staff, third party contractors, television production crews and contingent staff. This is a full-time, exempt position based on the Stanford main Campus.
Summary of Essential job functions:

  • Oversee, manage and direct all day to day video technology for teams, as well as assisting with video and audio coverage for varsity events.
  • Act as a conference liaison to ensure cooperation with guidelines, and new conference technology initiatives.
  • Oversee support for issues of technical equipment that are relating to all aspects of Coaching film.
  • Assisting when operating improperly or broken, software assistance is needed, reconfiguring workflows for capturing, storage, and pull back of footage.
  • Coordinating with vendors for repairs and maintenance that are out of scope of work including IT issues.
  • Engineering solutions for opportunities when cost cutting solutions arise.
  • Manage an annual budget including research and planning for growth of equipment needs for programs.
  • Will network with peers and vendors about new project/product installations.
  • Finding cost effective solutions for replacement parts across venues.
  • Document end of life schedules for cameras and peripheral equipment and plan for replacement parts or entire systems when needed.
  • Create research conversation with coaching staff about needs including film, player tracking and ball tracking solutions etc.
  • Will integrate softwares that are sports specific and train coaches/support staff on new equipment.
  • Will execute maintenance & pre-season checks of existing equipment confirming healthy visual of all cameras, stats communication, full system software updates, audio pathway tests and video and camera path to user computer.
  • Oversee project management including site visits for vendors to scope location, product, etc.
  • Will Coordinate bidding for infrastructure, approve budget finalization, plan for added expenses throughout each project, order equipment through distributor, oversee on site product delivery, manage installation crew, troubleshoot during installation and at project completion.

Summary of required skills and abilities:
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge in analog, digital video, fiber and audio systems are crucial for this position. Starting with camera capturing and ending with video display, the knowledge of the routing, switching and recording is a must.
  • Working knowledge of non-linear video editing systems, video playback, cameras and related hardware.
  • Clear understanding of video editing, live broadcast technology, video transcoding.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Successfully collaborate with other groups, especially Communications, Director of operations positions and sports programs directly.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and train staff for high performance.
  • Extensive knowledge of Daktronics, Cisco, Axis equipment and systems.
  • Should be proficient in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Encore DVD, Audition and various equipment such as routers, switchers, controllers and design software.
  • Broad knowledge of all aspects of broadcast quality television, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound and editing.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform repairs on a wide variety of audio, visual and computer equipment.

The expected pay range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
