Purpose/Summary
The Community College of Denver's (CCD) educational programs are designed to enrich the social, civic, and economic fabric of our community, nation, and the world. We currently enroll 8,032 students, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Thirty-three percent of CCD's students identify as Hispanic, 32% as White; 10.6% as African American, 7% as International, 5.3% as Asian, 3.7% as more than one race, less than 1% as American Indian/Alaskan Native, and less than 1% as Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. Additionally, CCD students are diverse in LGBTQAI+ identity, socioeconomic status, religion, age, veteran status, citizenship status, and nationality.
The Department of Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy at the Community College of Denver invites qualified applicants to join our team as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy. Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy's vision is to provide students with transformative educational experiences rooted in the values of cultural and intellectual freedom. To accomplish this vision, we prioritize creating a student-centered culture with an emphasis on critical and creative thinking, seeking to cultivate a respect for different experiences, cultures and religions, and the dignity of all persons.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a will be a well-rounded educator who invests in teaching and learning support in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats and has a high interest to engage in collaboration with interdisciplinary programs and/or contribute to their course offerings based on area of expertise, as well as participate cross-functionally within the institution.
The Assistant Professor of Philosophy is responsible for teaching philosophy courses full-time within the Department of Humanities, Literature, and Philosophy at CCD. Candidates must possess strong teaching skills and the ability to engage students using traditional, nontraditional and innovative methods of instruction, including the use of technology, while teaching in a curriculum grounded in core values of critical thinking, respect, competence, professional development, and ethical responsibility. A commitment to student academic success that goes beyond the classroom is essential. Recent experience working with Latinx/Hispanic, African American, Native American and other racially/ ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students in the classroom is preferred.
Responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Philosophy include: Developing syllabi and course materials using culturally responsive pedagogy and adult learning theory for on-campus and online delivery, as needed; supporting students' academic progress; actively participating in the department's ongoing assessment process, including collection of artifacts, norming, and post-assessment review; teaching future courses as assigned using a variety of modalities (i.e. online, face-to-face, hybrid, and/or compressed sections); evaluating student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes; actively participate in college-wide and program specific professional developments; utilizing technology-based programs to access and input information related to student records and college processes (e.g., Banner, D2L, grade books, etc.); maintain competency and currency in the teaching field(s), as well as in teaching strategies, subject delivery modalities, and assessment methods.
The Assistant Professor for Philosophy is expected to be familiar with both College and Auraria Campus expectations, including accessibility, academic standards, personal responsibilities, and all rules and regulations. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master's Degree in philosophy or closely associated discipline with 18 credits in Philosophy.
Experience:
Two years of Philosophy teaching experience in a community college, college or university setting.
Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Experience and expertise using student-centered teaching practices
Evidence of successful collaboration on departmental projects and initiatives
Consistent participation in professional development leading to growth as a teacher
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of online teaching andragogy

CCD and most employment categories contribute to , which provides retirement and other benefits to employees of more than 500 government agencies and public entities in the state of Colorado. PERA is the 21st largest public pension plan in the United States. PERA is a substitute for Social Security; CCD employees do not contribute to Social Security. PERA eligible employees are required to contribute a fixed percentage of their salary to the pension. Student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA.
