The Department of Language and Literature at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise seeks applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor of German to teach courses at all levels of the undergraduate program. The successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load of courses including courses that serve the College's Liberal Arts foreign language requirement. The position also includes the potential to lead short-term study abroad programs and collaborate with our sister institutions including Technical University Dortmund and the University of Luxembourg.

 Successful candidates must possess a Ph.D. in German. Strong preference will be given to candidates who also have qualifications to teach French. Candidates with expertise in cultural studies, German for the professions, or translation and interpretation are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants should have experience teaching German at the college level and the demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level, employing pedagogies that seek to develop communicative and intercultural competence.
