Description:

Assistant Professor in Education
Lake Superior State University is seeking a dynamic faculty member to join the School of Education, which is part of the novel College of Great Lakes Ecology and Education (GLEE). GLEE is focusing on building project and place-based teacher education programs that prepare students to work in all settings, but with a focus on rural schools. We are seeking a faculty member to help our team innovate and develop a flagship program that is highly desired by students and whose graduates are highly desired by school districts for teaching positions. Our growing program seeks a collaborative faculty member to provide superior and in-depth instruction and coaching to future teachers and becomes a leader in the School of Education and GLEE. This position begins in August 2024.

Faculty members in the School of Education are expected to:

  • Expand the teacher education program through high quality teaching and strategic recruitment of students
  • Teach a minimum of 12 contract hours at the undergraduate level per semester; courses are delivered in-person and primarily as mid-flex approaches (online and in-person students) and will involve supervision of student teaching and apprenticeships;
  • Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support
  • Participate in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations
  • Contribute to course and program assessment and assist with ongoing CAEP accreditation work
  • Perform university and community service
  • Contribute to the online presence, marketing, and website maintenance of the School

Required Qualifications

  • M.S. in Education; Curriculum and Instruction; or closely-related field (awarded by August 2024)
  • Experience teaching at the elementary, middle, or high school level
  • Evidence of collaboration with a diverse group of faculty, students, and K-12 school personnel
  • Ability to use a wide range of Educational technologies in instruction
  • Credentials to supervise teacher candidates in clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ed.D., Ph.D. in Education; Curriculum and Instruction; or closely-related field (awarded by August 2024)
  • Experience teaching multiple modalities (e.g. in-person, online synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid)
  • Knowledge of state and national teacher licensure requirements
  • Credentials to also support the special education program
  • Experience acquiring external funding for program growth and expansion, track record of prior researc
