The Department of Communication at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, contingent upon availability of funding. We seek applicants with expertise in the following areas, including, but not limited to: international/intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, sports communication, strategic communication, and communication and technology.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesPublishing peer-reviewed journal articles and applying for competitive grants on a regular basis will be expected for tenure. Annual teaching load will be 2/1 or 1/2 with an expectation of advising multiple Ph.D. students at varying stages of degree completion per academic year. Information about the Ph.D. program can be found here. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in both face-to-face and asynchronous online formats. Assigned courses will be consistent with the area of expertise.

Required Competencies- Established capability of conducting and publishing scientific studies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
- Ability and willingness to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Department of Communication
- Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
- PhD in Communication or related discipline by 8/15/2024
- Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications- Experience advising and/or mentoring graduate students
- Professional experience in communication field(s)
- Experience and/or demonstrated potential to teach courses in the Department of Communication’s curriculum
- Experience being part of external grant-funded team(s) and evidence of applying for and/or obtaining external funding
- Experience teaching undergraduate-level and graduate-level courses
- Experience teaching HyFlex courses (i.e., teaching a course in face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous formats in a single semester)
Contract Period/Start Date
Dates of initial contract are August 16, 2024 - May 15, 2025. Summer teaching may be available but is neither guaranteed nor required.
