Visiting Assistant Professor: Biological Sciences
North Dakota State University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for a 9-month non-tenure-track position to begin service on 16 August 2024.
Description & Details:
The Department of Biological Sciences at NDSU is accepting applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor. This will be a nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin fall 2024. We are seeking candidates who have experience using active learning and learner-centered approaches to teaching. Candidates must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a discipline appropriate to the Biological Sciences and relevant teaching experience. Successful candidates will be expected to teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate level. Specific courses taught will be determined based on expertise and experience, as well as the needs of the department. The position is 100 % teaching.
Advertised Salary:
$48,000-$52,000
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have: 1) completed a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a discipline appropriate to the Biological Sciences; 2) relevant teaching experience as an instructor of record; 3) evidence of a commitment to teaching and student learning at the undergraduate level; 4) Effective oral and written communication skills; 5) ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with 1) experience teaching multiple types of courses; 2) experience using active learning techniques; 3) experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology Courses; 4) experience teaching general education biology courses; 5) experience teaching wildlife ecology and management; 6) a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom; and 7) a commitment to diversity.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 4 teaching faculty, and offers BA/BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. There are more than 360 undergraduate and 50 graduate students enrolled in its programs. Undergraduate degrees are offered in Biological Sciences and Biological Sciences education. Graduate degrees are offered in biology, and the department also participates in several interdisciplinary graduate programs: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environment and Conservation Sciences, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Natural Resource Management, and STEM Education.
