Position Announcement
Assistant Professor in Animal Sciences and Livestock Judging Coach
The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at NDSU seeks applicants for a 12-month position with responsibilities including teaching courses, as well as coaching the Livestock Judging Team. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's on-going emphasis in student development through classroom teaching and participation in high impact practices. Position responsibilities are 70% teaching and 30% extension. It is expected that responsibilities in these areas will be closely supportive of each other. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the teaching mission of the department through teaching while developing, recruiting, and training students to participate in a competitive judging environment. Hosting judging camps and clinics, and organizing clinics for livestock judges are required. The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with faculty and staff providing leadership for 4-H, FFA, and other youth programs in recruiting prospective students. The position will require travel and frequent work during the evening and weekends.
This position is supported by the Faculty Endowment Fund which is a perpetual source of support to enhance the longstanding tradition of faculty and coaching excellence in livestock evaluation and leadership of animal sciences judging teams at NDSU. Funds can be used to enhance (supplement) the salary and benefits of the position holder, judging teams (including recruitment, marketing, teaching, coaching, travel) and other Program support. The successful candidate will work closely with the NDSU Foundation to provide an annual report of activities related to the program and plans for the coming year.

Required Education and Experience:
  • PhD in animal science or related area,
  • Experience in teaching, and
  • Experience coaching livestock judging teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to motivate students
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience in developing effective extension programs geared toward youth audiences
  • Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills
  • Experience working in a team-based, collaborative environment
  • Experience working with alumni and donors to develop strong linkages and support for programming
