Description College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. Position overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a Full-Time Tenure-Track Assistant professor in the Nutrition and Food Science program in the Human Environmental Sciences Department. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Food Science and nutrition discipline using a transformative learning approach and will participate in service and scholarship. Faculty members are expected to be active scholars, remain current in the field, help in the advisement of students and participate in department, college, and university committees and activities. Preference will be given to applications submitted by February 12, 2024. The effective date of the position is 08/12/2024.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

This position carries a teaching load of 12 hours per semester with expectation to develop graduate classes in Food Science and nutrition. The position will teach Food Science courses including, principles of food preparation; Food Science lab, functional foods for health, food product development, food quality, sensory science, or similar courses within the program to include lecture, laboratory, and online courses. Candidate will be expected to develop a multidisciplinary independent research program related to Food Science/product development/quality via generation of extramural research funds from state or federal funding agencies.

Duties will include graduate advising, supervising thesis students, participation in student recruitment activities, management of student workers, budgeting, and purchasing related to laboratory courses and advising of student organization.

Experience Required:

The department seeks a food scientist with an earned doctorate in Food Science, nutritional science or closely related field awarded from a regionally accredited University or internationally recognized institution. (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). ABD candidates will be considered. NOTE If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor. Candidates who are ABD in their doctoral programs will be considered for the instructor rank with the expectation of degree completion on or before the end of the first year of employment. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop and teach discipline specific courses as listed above. Applicants must also possess history of publication and grantsmanship.in the discipline. Experience necessary relative to performing the additional management duties as listed above.

Experience Preferred:

Preference will be given to individuals with teaching experience in Food Science courses. Professional and industrial experience in the area of Food Science and technology also a plus. In addition, active participation in relevant academic or professional organizations and experience supervising/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in scholarly activities will also be considered. R.D and/or C.F.S. credential a plus.
