The Biomedical Engineering program in the College of Engineering & Mines at the University of North Dakota is a pioneer in innovation-based learning (IBL), a model aimed at providing students with the necessary skills to be leaders in biomedical innovation.
We are searching for two tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty members to support the program’s teaching and research missions. Both positions are expected to begin August 16, 2024
- Teaching Biomedical Engineering courses in IBL style
- Developing an externally funded research program in Biomedical Engineering
- Advising students in course planning and fulfilling graduation requirements
- Communicating effectively in the English language with students, families, faculty, staff, and other professional colleagues in person and at a distance
- Each successful candidate will be expected to have a workload of approximately 35% teaching, 55% research, and 10% service for the initial two years. Teaching responsibilities include graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise.
- All faculty members are expected to contribute service within the department, college, university, and professional community. - Practiced Project Based Learning pedagogy teaching experience in the past
- Broad knowledge of emerging Biomedical Engineering challenges and research potentials
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
- Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the College of Engineering and Mines
- Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
- Demonstrated Ability to work with industry
- PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- A strong record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications in Biomedical Engineering
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level using project-based learning pedagogy
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications- Publications related to Engineering Education
- A history of grants related to Biomedical Engineering
- Experience working on individual and collaborative multi-disciplinary research teams
- Previous academic experience as an Assistant Professor or similar rank
