TITLE: Assistant Principal at Manhattan JuniorHigh School
DEPARTMENT: Administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Illinois Professional Educator License
- License Endorsement in General Administrative - Type 75
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal
DUTIES:
- Demonstrates a sound work ethic and positive attitude while carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
- Assists in the administrative responsibilities of the school under the direction of the principal.
- Serves as acting principal in the principal's absence.
- Has experience and knowledge of best curriculum practices for respective grade levels in the school
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Works with various members of the district administrative staff on school issues of district-wide importance.
- Keeps the building principal and superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters.
- Assures the efficient, effective operation of the school by directing the staff development and evaluation of all non-certified general education employees and assist the building principal with certified evaluations if/and when necessary.
- Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
- Maintains regular communication with students and parents.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary with adopted district policy.
- Structures school time to provide appropriate time to achieve the instructional goals of the school.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications.
- Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating the school's professional staff.
- Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school safety plan.
- Participates in principal's meetings and other such meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Perform such other tasks/duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

- Demonstrates awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Ability to use a personal computer and related software.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10-month contract, School year plus 10 days before and 10 days after.
SALARY: $68,000 - $73,000
EVALUATION:
Performance of the job will be evaluated by the building Principal at least annually.
