TITLE: Assistant Principal at Manhattan JuniorHigh School
DEPARTMENT: Administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License
  • License Endorsement in General Administrative - Type 75
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal
DUTIES:
  • Demonstrates a sound work ethic and positive attitude while carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Assists in the administrative responsibilities of the school under the direction of the principal.
  • Serves as acting principal in the principal's absence.
  • Has experience and knowledge of best curriculum practices for respective grade levels in the school
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Works with various members of the district administrative staff on school issues of district-wide importance.
  • Keeps the building principal and superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters.
  • Assures the efficient, effective operation of the school by directing the staff development and evaluation of all non-certified general education employees and assist the building principal with certified evaluations if/and when necessary.
  • Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains regular communication with students and parents.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary with adopted district policy.
  • Structures school time to provide appropriate time to achieve the instructional goals of the school.
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications.
  • Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating the school's professional staff.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school safety plan.
  • Participates in principal's meetings and other such meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Perform such other tasks/duties as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional and technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, parents and the general public.

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Demonstrates awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related software.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10-month contract, School year plus 10 days before and 10 days after.
SALARY: $68,000 - $73,000

EVALUATION:
Performance of the job will be evaluated by the building Principal at least annually.
