Department Summary
The UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center ( KFAC ) conducts evidence-based direct services, research, and training to positively impact individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, their families, and the community.
Position Overview
This position provides direct, individualized learning supports to children with autism participating in the early intervention classrooms at the UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center ( KFAC ). Under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst ( BCBA ) who has expertise in early childhood education, the employee will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the preparation of classroom supports and learning materials.
- Implementing best practices from early childhood education and clinical autism intervention to support learning and development.
- Handling the direct implementation of skill building and behavior support plans.
- Collecting, recording, and analyzing data to monitor children's progress.
- Maintaining awareness of trends and best practices in early childhood education and/or autism intervention.
The ideal applicant has (1) at least one year of experience working with young children in childcare or preschool settings, (2) a basic understanding of child development and strategies to support learning and development in young children, and (3) a passion for supporting young children's individualized learning needs.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/ GED equivalent and one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities, a basic understanding of behavior analytic principles and procedures, and knowledge of evidence-based practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Basic understanding of autism spectrum disorders and evidence-based practices.
• Ability to work with clients with autism spectrum disorders.
• Ability to be patient, flexible, versatile and cope with stressful situations.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Several years of experience teaching in a toddler or early childhood classroom, implementing developmentally appropriate practices.
• Formal coursework in a field related to child development or early childhood education.

Job Duties
o
Models core organization beliefs, values, and expectations.
o
Directly implements individualized skill building and behavior support plans developed by Board Certified Behavior Analyst ( BCBA ).
o
Accurately collects, records, and graphs child data, and reports concerns regarding children's progress to supervisor.
o
Maintains developmentally appropriate, neat, clean, and orderly classrooms and treatment rooms.
o
Assists in the development of daily schedules, and maintains all necessary staff and client spreadsheets including schedules, training, availability, contact information, role, etc.
o
Effectively addresses and resolves problems related to scheduled and unscheduled client and staff absences.
o
Maintains awareness of individual child needs, staff skills, and space utilization to assist in decision-making.
o
Effectively uses technology to maintain effective operations ensuring staff and child activities are recorded and documented.
o
Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and special events as required.
o
Follows UNT and departmental policies and procedures, legal requirements, verbal/written directives, and Professional Codes of Ethics and Standards.
