Job Description
The Assistant Planner position will make a contribution to a very busy City with a variety of projects. You must possess 1 to 2 years of City planning experience, effectively work the counter, multi-task, and work well with the general public.
Areas of responsibilitymay include one or more of the following:
- Works the public counter, relieves and assists other planners
- Assist in special projects
- Assist in planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs and regulations
- Assists in the review of development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations
- Collect, collate, and prepare reports on development proposals for government entities, including land use, entitlements, and more.
- Assists in evaluations of re-zoning, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals
- Acts as liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans
- Coordinates community review of public and private development projects
- Provides information to the public regarding development regulations
- Assists the City Planner/Supervisor in resolving issues
Knowledge& Skills:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning, research, and data collection
- Ability to read and use maps, land use, affordable housing, and/or transportation
- Knowledge of various computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and GIS
- Excellent communication with any number of departments, staff, and general public.
- Excellent interpersonal skills used to help explain rules and procedures to the public
- Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve problems
- Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to field conditions
- Ability to create graphic designs, development strategies, and render site plans via sketches and/or computer graphics highly desirable.
- Ability to multi-task and ability to alternate between several projects or issues
- Work independently or in a team environment and effectively manage data input and analyses
Qualifications:
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related
Required experience: City Planning: 1-32 years
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
