Job Description
Location:
San Francisco, CA This role directly reports to the Director of Photography. The Assistant Photo Editor will create day-to-day photo/visual solutions to support the digital and print editorial staff to maintain the visual standards of the brand across the WIRED Global Network. This is a Guild position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Acquires photo research for both the digital and the print editions of WIRED.
- Research, source, license, and edit photos and video for 3-5 verticals on Wired.com.
- Use Photoshop skills for toning, color correction, and cropping.
- Collaborate with design department in creating digital illustrations.
- Gather props, set up and breakdown on local and WIRED productions and studio shoots.
- Archives, labels, and organizes images on our image database.
- Obtain image references for illustrators, as well as gather photography for editorial panel discussions and presentations.
- Uphold all publishing copyright laws and artist rights for Conde Nast Publications.
- Reviews photographer portfolios and continuously searches for new talent and potential photo essays, for both print and digital.
- Act as staff photographer when needed.
- Ensure that WIRED’s visual aesthetic is maintained across all platforms.
- Learn the process of photo shoot production.
- Local to SF: assist in maintaining WIRED Photo Studio for photo and video shoots.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- 1+ years of work experience in photography, media or relevant fields.
- Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop.
- Knowledge of digital and social content, specifically vertical video.
- Knowledge of photo shoot production.
- Familiarity with artist contracts, copyright laws, photo licensing and artist rights.
- Possess a strong eye for talent and basic knowledge of photographers, videographers,
photo representatives and artist agencies. - Experience with animation and digital illustration is a plus.
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to contribute to editorial decisions and support the development of visual stories across all platforms.
- Can creatively translate the needs of the brand into high quality output through a detailed understanding of the requirements of the platforms.
- Experience as a photographer is a plus.
- BA or BFA in photography or studio art preferred.

The expected base salary range for this position is $60,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
