The Daily News, located in Huntingdon, PA, is seeking a full-time Assistant News Editor to assist with newsroom operations. Specific job duties include:

• Develop and write timely stories for print and online platforms within deadlines and ahead of competing news outlets;
• Collect photos and videos to illustrate stories in the course of reporting;
• Use social media to report events;
• Responsible for a municipal and school board beat;
• Cultivate and maintain news sources and monitor developments on the beat;
• Paginate the newspaper two nights per week;
• Adhere to the standards for accuracy, sourcing and journalism;
• Communicate with callers on stories and evaluating story tips from the public;
• Master alternative forms of news delivery such as social media;
• Use social media as an aid in source and story development;
• Monitor social media outlets and post daily across multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) to engage with readers.

Job Requirements: The ideal candidate for this position will have advanced reporting skills, a BA in journalism or a related field and dedication to fact-checking and accuracy. This person will be comfortable using technology to add extra dimensions such as photo and video to reporting; and will understand that journalism is changing rapidly and have the desire and skills to adapt. This position requires good interpersonal skills, an eye for news, the ability to efficiently manage your time and multiple priorities, and excellent news judgment.

Salary Range: $30,000 - $35,000
