Title of Position:Assistant Immigration Specialist

Status: Full-Time
Compensation: $21.98 hourly

Schedule: 35 hours per week

Location: Forest Hills, NY

We are seeking a qualified Assistant Immigration Specialist with a commitment to immigrant communities and demonstrated experience working in an immigration legal services program. The Immigration Legal Services is currently provided directly by BIA/DOJ accredited Immigration Specialists and by immigration legal counsels. This is an entry-level position in our program. Some of the services provided after the basic assessment of participants include family sponsorship, green card renewal/replacement, citizenship application, TPS, DACA application/renewal, and referrals to citizenship/ESOL classes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Input participant data accurately and on time into government and internal immigration databases. Attend trainings to improve skills if necessary. Correct errors and inconsistencies in data and maintain confidentiality.
  • Organize and maintain physical files according to contract requirements. Ensure participants understand their roles and tasks and maintain confidentiality of their information.
  • Support immigration staff with day-to-day operations, including managing priorities, translating, coordinating legal consultations, scheduling appointments, answering inquiries, and assisting with citizenship and ESOL programs.
  • Engage in community outreach activities to improve participant outreach.
  • Document and organize program inquiries made by phone, email, or in person. Follow up with new participants and provide clear communication with staff.
  • Assist participants in completing required documents for their immigration cases, gather necessary information, and schedule appointments.
  • Stay updated on immigration news and policies through external meetings, networking opportunities, online resources, and research.
  • Participate in webinars, trainings, and workshops to enhance immigration knowledge.
  • Manage own working hours, submit timesheets on time, and communicate with director and administrative staff about daily activities and challenges.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred. Foreign credentials accepted.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with immigrant populations.
  • Open to learning and adapting.
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong judgment and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, digital tools, and social media.
  • Skilled in providing customer service and culturally sensitive support.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Values confidentiality and respects diverse backgrounds.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/Russian are a plus.
