The Tides by the Sea is located at the South end of Seaside's historic promenade and is the closest lodging property to the beach and offers gorgeous views of Seaside Cove and surfer's paradise. We are currently seeking an Assistant General Manager to serve as our guests' first point of contact and manage all aspects of the accommodation.
The Assistant General Manager's responsibilities include registering guests, managing reservations, and providing information about rooms, rates, amenities, local eateries, and points of interest. This individual will also assist Managers in oversight of HOA funded projects. The Responsibilities of the Position Include Assisting Managers with the Following:
  • Oversight and management of all aspects of hotel operations, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Maintenance
  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences by maintaining high standards of customer service and hospitality
  • Development and implementation of strategies to maximize revenue and profitability
  • Supervise and train staff members to ensure they provide excellent service and adhere to hotel policies and procedures when Managers are unavailable
  • Ensure all staff has the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, owners and employees
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate hotel activities and events
  • Ensure guests receive prompt, professional attention and are greeted upon arrival
  • Monitor and analyze guest feedback to identify areas for improvement
  • Ensure procedures are followed for security of monies, credit and financial transactions, and guest security
  • Throughout shift conduct routine inspections of the front office, public areas, and rooms to ensure the appearance of such areas reflects highly on the hotel and correct any deficiencies
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments, including Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance
  • Assist Managers with their responsibilities as directed
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance and professional demeanor (Specific standards outlined at orientation)
  • Perform any related duties as requested by the Managers
  • Will serve as manager on duty as required

The Skills and Experience Needed:
  • A combination of 3 - 4 years of customer service and/or hospitality experience including supervisory experience
  • Minimum associate degree, bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must have a pleasing, hospitable demeanor to engage with guests
  • Highly experienced working with computers, email, and hotel reservations software
  • Demonstrate proper phone etiquette and be courteous to everyone
  • Understanding of how travel planning websites operate
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently
  • Attention to detail, problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often
  • Proficiency in using phone systems and other hospitality software

The Physical Demands of the Position:
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crouch, crawl, reach and retrieve items from overhead
  • Stand on a regular basis throughout the shift
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks at one time, pivot quickly, and be able to pay attention to sound and sight details in crowded and noisy situations
  • Must have the ability to keep breakage to a minimum by handling dishes, glassware, and fragile equipment with care

Other Qualifications Include:
  • Is able to communicate effectively and professionally with others. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Is able to work effectively under time constraints and high stress situations
  • Must maintain confidentiality with staff, owners, guests and vendors
  • Is flexible and able to handle interruptions
  • Is committed to providing a memorable guest experience
  • Brings a positive outlook and team orientation to work
  • Ability to stay on task until jobs are completed
  • Ability to communicate in English, both written and spoken
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to clear a background check
