Job Description:
Wittenberg University is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Football Coach for the Defensive Line or Linebackers. The Assistant Football Coach assists the Head Coach with the daily operation of the football program in the NCAA Division III and the recruitment of student-athletes. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt-level position.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Coaching
- Assist the Head Coach with daily practice planning, game decisions, and player feedback and evaluation.
- Perform video analysis and scouting of opponents.
- Assist and mentor student athletes with academic progress, course selection, campus involvement and social/community outreach, and other issues related to the college experience.
Recruiting
- Recruit quality student-athletes both on campus and at various recruiting events throughout the year.
- Manage recruiting databases.
- Schedule recruit visits.
- Attend recruiting events and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
Administrative
- Assist the Head Coach with coordinating and managing game day operations and administrative tasks.
- Plan team travel and meals.
- Participate in department meetings.
- Provide service to the Institution as assigned by the Director of Athletics & Recreation or the Head Coach.
- Adhere to NCAA, conference, departmental, and university policies, procedures, and expectations.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Requirements:
For this position, we require that candidates have a bachelor's degree and at least 1-3 years of previous collegiate coaching or playing experience with the post position. Candidates must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, be able to interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, peers, community members, and administrators. Knowledge in the following areas is preferred: Microsoft Office, athletic video and performance review software (i.e. Hudl, Synergy), social media platforms, and recruiting software (i.e. Frontrush). CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification required. Ability to remain stationary for several hours during games and practices, routinely transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds (with assistance), and ability to use technology such as computer, tablet, and/or phone required.
Travel is required as well as some evening, night, and weekend work.
A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
