The Hope Mills Fire Department is looking for its next Team Member--Assistant Fire Marshal.
DUTIES/RESPONSBILITIES
Distinguishing Features of Class

• An employee in this class performs practical and administrative tasks in conducting fire prevention programs to ensure compliance with state and local fire laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations.
• Work also includes conducting fire inspections, assisting with fire investigations, observing trends and patterns of the area's fire problem and responding to emergency calls.
• The employee also conducts and promotes Fire & Life Safety education programs.
• The employee prepares and maintains records pertaining to fire inspections; assists with building plans review for fire code compliance and other duties as assigned.
• Considerable public contact requires that the employee exhibit tact and diplomacy in seeking compliance with fire laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations as well as maintaining positive public relations in regards to Fire & Life Safety programs.
• Work is performed under the supervision of the Fire Marshal and is evaluated through observation concerning the quality and effectiveness of work performed.

• Actively participates in programs to reduce fire hazards by compliance with state and local fire laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
• Conducts fire inspections and public safety programs.
• Enforcement of applicable state and local fire laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
• Investigates citizen complaints as it pertains to the fire code.
• Recommends and implements improvement and organization.
• Issues citations for violation of the fire code.
• Presents Fire & Lafe Safety Education to residents, employees, business owners and groups.
• Participates as a member of the town's plan review committee in the absence of the Fire Marshal.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Thorough knowledge of state and local fire laws, codes, ordinances rules and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial buildings and their operations as well as geography within the town.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, employees, businesses and the general public.
• Ability to prepare and submit clear and accurate reports.
• Ability to analyze problems and come up with reasonable options and solutions.
• Ability to maintain good physical condition.

Desirable Experience and Training

• Experience working in fire inspections, instruction, suppression, rescue and emergency medical care.
• NC Fire Inspector certification as a Level I inspector.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Special Requirements

• Possession of a valid NC Class B driver's license and excellent driving record. Certification as an:
• NC Fire Inspector I.
• NC Firefighter II.
• NC Emergency Medical Technician.
• NC Hazardous Materials Responder I.
• NC Driver/Operator (Preferred).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform all requirements of the NFPA Standard 1001 for firefighting and rescue.
