Job description

Using a holistic and ecological approach, the Assistant Director, Student Success: Director of SUNY Advancing Success in Associated Pathways (aka Assistant Director moving ahead), is primarily responsible for leading the Student Success Coach: SUNY ASAP support model for a cohort of students within an academic department. Working with the AVP of Student Affairs the AD is responsible for coordinating a program that provides identified students academic and financial support throughout their journey at FLCC. Coordinates the responses to the College’s internal measurements of risk and protective measures. Remains current on supporting literature, empirical evidence, and college infrastructure to propose appropriate and relevant solutions.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field. Master’s degree in any above field or related required.
  • Experience: Identify the minimum number of 4 years of professional experience supporting students in academic advising, counseling or other related student-support work required. Experience developing and implementing student support programs and initiatives required. Experiencing overseeing and/or supervising student support teams is required, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Special Skills: Demonstrable experience supporting students in both individualized and group settings. Ability to work with a diverse population and provide a variety of academic advising, support services, career and transfer advising with knowledge and understanding of student development theory and practice required. Ability to identify academic needs and offer solutions with professional oral and written communication skills, and human relations skills. Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records required. Ability to work respectfully with confidential information and make referrals as appropriate. Demonstrate experience leading a productive team of student support staff, including student staff hired for retention initiatives. Ability to synthesize, propose, and execute solutions from a variety of data sources related to Student Success. Demonstrated experience with marketing and promotions of programs preferred. Demonstrated experience with MS Office and database management required. Experience with computerized student information system is required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the College’s Advancing Success in Associated Pathways (SUNY ASAP) program in collaboration with key enrollment and Student Affairs Offices and communicate with academic stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on best practices for retention of students enrolled in various instructional modalities.
  • Collaborate with admissions and marketing to promote SUNY ASAP pre-enrollment to targeted student population(s).
  • Collaborate with professional and faculty advisors to support student. Maintain strong collaboration with academic department(s).
  • In collaboration with the AVP, or designee, oversee the SUNY ASAP model and gather empirical evidence of support program outcomes and improvements.
  • Supervise a functional team of professional, para-professional and student staff.
  • Working with the AVP and other key stakeholders to coordinate the College’s academic progress surveys and student self-assessment. Implement a communication plan and marketing of these holistically designed systems.
  • Develop and assist relevant stakeholders (ACPI, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, etc.) in the analysis of data to devise and propose appropriate recommendations for program adjustments.
  • Serve as the primary SUNY liaison for the project. Includes, but not limited to, attending all SUNY required meetings, providing all data, reports and analysis of project. Keep the AVP and College leadership up to date on project.
  • Under the direction of the AVP, or designee, provide appropriate professional development support to the unit and College stakeholders on persistence and completion of activities and events.
  • Assist students with the generation and attainment of career, transfer and other important planning for personal success.
  • Work with Career and Transfer services to embed goals and referrals for individualized Student Success.
  • Understand and adhere to confidentiality of student information and related data as well as FERPA guidelines.
  • Disseminate information on institution policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to engage students and encourage participation in both curricular and co-curricular activities.
  • Understand the experiences of historically marginalized racial groups in the U.S.in education, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the AVP of Student Affairs or Provost.

Benefits and salary range:

  • Competitive starting salary in the range of $53,000-$60,000 and is commensurate with qualifications
