Purpose of Position:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Student Life and Leadership, the Assistant Director will oversee the Student Life and Leadership office at our North Hudson Campus, developing and executing office-produced and collaborative social, cultural, and educational events at the campus, lead/support large-scale cross-college events and programs, and manage college-wide student leadership development and opportunities. This individual will oversee the upkeep and management of the office space, which includes the supervision of its part-time staff.

Summary of DutiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Life and Leadership at the North Hudson Campus located in Union City, NJ, which includes keeping the office clean, organized and professional, and ensuring that customer service stays top priority, assisting and resolving any issues that students may have.Develop relationships with faculty and staff located at the North Hudson Campus, creating and collaborating on co-curricular and campus-wide opportunities for the students, and community partners, developing opportunities for collaboration and student involvement in the surrounding neighborhoods.Co-supervise part-time staff that works in the North Hudson CampusStudent Life and Leadership office, managing their day-to-day expectations and tasks. Along with the Administrative Support Specialist of Student Life and Leadership, manage their schedule to ensure that the office and events are properly staffed. Supervise Federal Work Study employees working in the office, which may include interviewing, training, and monitoring. Develop and execute social, cultural, and educational programming opportunities for the North Hudson Campus, ensuring that events meet the office’s Learning Outcomes. Work to continue college traditions, and look for opportunities to create and build more. Work alongside office’s Event Assistants to plan and execute off-campus opportunities, including, but not limited to museum visits and community service opportunities. Event execution includes acquiring invoices and ensuring payment of all vendors, room set-ups, staffing, and post-event assessment.Alongside the Student Life and Leadership staff, organize and take leadership in the creation and execution of events celebrating and recognizing commemorative months including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, HCCC PRIDE, Arab American Heritage Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and more. Work in conjunction with Associate Director of Student Life and Leadership to build club presence and Leadership opportunities at the North Hudson Campus, with goal to continually build student-led clubs, branches of clubs, and support membership of campus-wide honor societies. Alongside the Assistant Dean of Student Life and Leadership, execute the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Passport Program, an online 8-week program focused on building cultural competency, leadership skills, and advocacy tools in students, building equity and DEI leaders among our students. Serve as Co-Advisor to the HCCC Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success, staffing leadership development events, promoting the chapter, and recruiting students to join the chapter, and complete their path to induction and beyond.In conjunction with the Office of Student Life and Leadership, work to execute New Student Orientation on both campuses, developing ideas and staffing the events, and the Peer Leader Program, a paraprofessional student leadership program.Participate in the execution of graduation celebration events and ceremonies, which includes graduate fairs, BBQs, honor society induction ceremonies, social media spotlights and contests, and special group ceremonies, including a Kente Graduation and Lavender Graduation. Additionally, staff the Commencement Ceremony, held in May annually at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.Serve on college-wide and hiring committees, especially as it relates to position.Consistently stay on top of trends within programming and Leadership development, bringing forward new ideas and projects.QualificationsSkills:Experience in word processing, computer literate, good typing skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). Ability to interpret, analyze and problem solve detailed written and verbal communications. Good communication and interpersonal skills with students, college staff and the public.
