Summary:
The Assistant Director of the Standardized Patient Program and Experiential Simulation (SP & SIM) is responsible for the Standardized Patient Program and College Simulation and Procedure Activities. The Director supervises both Standardized Patient & Simulation Specialists (when present) as well as staff members during scheduled activities. While reporting to the Chair of Preclinical Medicine, will also receive direction from course directors and collaborative supervision from the Directors of the Standardized Patient Program and Experiential Simulation.

- This position reports to the Chair of Pre-clinical Medicine, although received direction from the Directors of Standardized Patient Program and Experiential Simulation Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs the recruitment, orientation, training, and evaluation in these areas.
- Oversees Standardized Patient training and performance reviews. This includes all aspects of case portrayal such as delivering details, affect, and physical simulation. This may involve observing videos of Standardized Patients for quality assurance purposes to ensure standardization and implement retraining.
- Work with faculty in the preparation of Standardized Patient training materials (case scripts, lab guides, and other documents needed for sessions).
- Oversees any contracted nursing, simulation assistants, or EMT providers who may assist in teaching or testing (if applicable).
- Oversees attendance and assists in the preparation and monitoring of inventory needed for clinical education activities involving Standardized Patients or medical simulation.
- Has knowledge of and manages and monitors the safe use of the human patient simulators (manikins), live patients (Standardized Patients), and related equipment.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and manikins for specific simulations/skill tasks and troubleshooting issues as they come up.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic pharmacology.
- Responsible for reporting any technical/supply issues that arise.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
- Conducts 100% inventory of all equipment with a monthly report (interval of report may be adjusted as needed)
- Work with local hospitals and clinics to acquire supply/equipment donations for student use in the simulation department.
- Performs bi-annual AED function and battery testing (w/battery change every 6 months).
- Performs LP-12 function test weekly.
- Administration and support of payment system, including data entry and timely submission of documents if New Mexico Directors need assistance.
- Coordinate and communicate schedules and reminders.
- Resolve and/or report Standardized Patient, simulation, or student issues to the appropriate Course Director and/or the Chair of Clinical Medicine.
- Ensures the appropriate room preparation, set up, maintenance, and breakdown of equipment and materials for scheduled events.
- Communicate effectively and manage challenging or confidential matters with the utmost professionalism. Ability to work professionally with a varied number of faculty, staff, and Standardized Patient trainees.
- Monitor/coordinate the program budgets with the Chair of Preclinical Medicine.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Experience working with medical equipment and supplies.
- Proficient in conducting supply inventory and ordering equipment (as needed)
- Familiarity with Gaumard, Laerdal low and high-fidelity equipment.
- Skills in self-reflection and evaluating and implementing process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, or an RN, LVN, EMT or Paramedic background. (Paramedics should have a current state Licensure or National Registry of EMTs licensure.)
- Experience in the medical field with direct patient care responsibilities.
- ACLS, PALS, BLS, PHTLS/ITLS Certification required or be able to become certified within the first 6 months (able to become an instructor)
- At least one year of experience working with Standardized Patients or similar.
- At least one year of supervisory responsibility.
Preferences:
- Prior experience in OSCE, SP experiences or medical simulation.
- Prior teaching experience
