Posting Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Office of International Education, the Assistant Director provides leadership for the immigration and non-immigration matters pertaining to the experiences of the International Student community at the University of Vermont. Supervise and lead a team of professional advising staff that provides holistic and client-centered support. In collaboration with Office of International Education staff and campus partners, develop and implement a robust portfolio of advising and student support services for UVM's international clients. Serve as the (Principal) Designated School Official for F-1 Student Program and Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. Develop and oversee workflow and processes in Sunapsis system. The position includes client advising and delivering presentations to clients and campus partners.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor's degree and five years of experience working with International Students in the US, including within the SEVIS database. Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret federal immigration regulations and apply this knowledge when advising on status-related issues. Demonstrated experience delivering high quality programming to an international population. Effective interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively; and organizational skills required. Ability to communicate complex immigration regulations in simple and clear language to diverse populations and internal departments and offices. Awareness of and sensitivity to the dynamics of cross-cultural communication and experience working with and advocating for diverse international populations required. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident per federal regulations.
Desirable Qualifications
| Experience using and developing systems in Sunapsis database. Experience supervising staff. Familiarity with international scholar immigration matters.
