University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. As the division grows, we are seeking an assistant director, Alumni and Constituent Engagement. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the director, Alumni and Constituent Engagement, you will serve as a contact for students and recent alumni to educate and encourage engagement with the university and with the alumni community. You will plan and implement engagement strategies and events that include communicating with targeted audiences, educating students and recent alumni of the benefits of being engaged, cultivating relationships with recent alumni and students and identifying and managing recent alumni volunteers. You will work with the Director to manage key events during the signature events weekends of Homecoming and Spring Carnival. You will collaborate with the reunion team on reunion engagement goals and objectives to establish appropriate engagement efforts of reunion strategy; act as liaison to the recent reunion class volunteers; and oversee several reunion events for the recent reunion classes.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the development and implementation of recent alumni and student relations for the Alumni Constituent team.
- Planning and managing aspects of two signature event weekends: Homecoming and Spring Carnival, including reunion activities that occur over Spring Carnival.
- Initiating, planning, managing and assessing recent alumni and student programs and events both on and off campus.
- Participating in the strategic and long-range planning for new initiatives and programs designed to enhance recent alumni and student engagement.
- Engaging in marketing and communications efforts related to assigned programs and events; may include writing for print and on-line publications.
- Managing volunteers, including recent reunion classes.
- Identifying and recruiting recent alumni and students for participation in programs, boards and committees.
- Managing budgets.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree is required; broad knowledge of university advancement functions preferred.
- Three to five years of experience, preferably within alumni relations/development. Progressive experience in alumni engagement, student engagement, event planning, reunions, volunteer management or development preferred. Budgetary oversight experience preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
- Strong event planning skills and volunteer management.
- Ability to interact with campus community and external constituents; to work independently as well as with a team and to proactively develop cooperative relationships with key faculty and staff members, colleagues and alumni volunteers.
- Good analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with a variety of computer applications. Familiarity with advancement databases and web-based tools.
Requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and successfully complete a driver's license verification on an annual basis. Must complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driver Training once every three years
