Summer Camp Assistant Director
Allandale Farm is a working vegetable farm and plant nursery. We also operate an outdoor nature-based summer program for children ages 4-13. The Summer Camp Assistant Director is a seasonal position with flexible minimal part-time hours in the pre-season and full-time hours during the seven-week summer program. The 2024 camp season will run for 7 weeks from 6/24-8/9 with a 6-hour/day core program and extended day opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Together with the Director:
- Training of all camp staff, including safety, procedural and curricular trainings
- Point person for staff and family communications
- Be present whenever camp is in session and children are present
- Supervise daily check-in and check-out of all campers
- Supervise and direct all staff assigned to work with the camp program to lead group activities and other camp staff duties
- Ensure the staff is adhering to all required summer camp safety guidelines and procedures including those specific to outdoor and farm environments
- Visit with each group daily to observe and support staff/child interactions
- Provide constructive feedback to the staff while respecting their leadership of the campers
- Report medical and social/emotional concerns to parents/guardians and the director
- Ensure camp program equipment is maintained and stocked, including first aid supplies
- Maintain weekly camp records, together with director
- Ensures thorough season wrap-up, including oversight of physical clean-up and final administrative tasks
- Reports to Summer Camp Director
Qualifications:
- Summer camp experience with at least two years in a leadership role in a summer camp or other equivalent program
- Degree in education or similar field strongly preferred
- Passion for working with children and young adults
- Experience in farming/natural sciences/outdoor education strongly preferred
- Effective manager of family and camper relationships
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Able to work collaboratively and independently toward shared goals
- Able to comfortably lift 50 lbs and work on feet in an outdoor setting all day

- $20-$25/hour, based on experience
