Assist. Press Operator Offset Web Printing - Nights (7Pm-7Am)

The Valpak Manufacturing Center is 470,000 sq ft and we are looking for an Assistant Press Operator - M110to ensure a quality printed product is the standard rather than the exception and meets production schedules to ensure all delivery schedules are met. What you need to bring with you in your education and experience is 5-7 years’ experience in offset heatset printing.

Supports the Press Systems area by assisting the Sr Process technician to operate equipment effectively with minimal downtime and optimal quality. Press System functions include, platemaking, assisting in main press operation, signature creation to include sheeter and in-line finishing. Provides manufacturing floor direction for the team and is accountable for job skills training for the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Accountable for assisting in the operation of a press team that produces signatures. Duties include, platemaking, main press operation, signature creation to include combination folder, sheeter and in-line finishing.
2. Sets high standards for quality, continuous process improvement (CPI), work ethic, safety and housekeeping, cross training and teamwork in the daily operation of the cell.
3. Assist and encourages others in the diagnostics and repair of machinery issues to minimize downtime and waste.
4. Works closely with Sr Process technician and maintenance staff to maximize value of preventative maintenance activities by reducing unexpected downtime.
5. Assist in the development of staff members by demonstrating behavior that sets the example within the team regarding continuous process improvement, safety, and housekeeping, etc.
6. Encourages collaboration within the group that creates ownership and pride in the delivery of error free first pass quality and minimal re-work/waste.
7. Coaches employee performance on a regular basis to encourage self-development and career planning that benefits both the individual and the business. Elevates all performance issues to the Process Lead.
8. Provides verbal and written communication to the appropriate personnel with regard to equipment, process, maintenance, quality, staff or other operational issues within the cell that may impact delivery of printed products and therefore overall press area production.
9. Participates in training in conjunction with the VMC “Progression” program to improve knowledge and skill related to the press 2nd and 3rd pressman position. Follows a planned program of continuous learning to complete all mandatory skill blocks. Maintains current skills required for the position and may pursue additional learning through optional and/or limited skill blocks. Coordinates the training and Progression certification in with their team.

1. Accomplishes duties using safe work practices and equipment while being responsible for reporting all injuries and observed unsafe conditions. Coaches fellow employees on safe work practices as appropriate and contributes to the overall success of the company’s safety program.
2. Performs related work and additional duties as needed or required.

2. Focus on CPI to reduce waste in all areas.

Education/Experience:

We're looking for two years of operating or assisting in the operation of offset heatset printing presses. Inline finishing experience preferred (may include vocational training/certification, training others in related field of printing.)

• Must be able to climb ladders and consistently work at varying heights
• Able to distinguish full range of colors
• Work in a noisy area using hearing protection
