Position Summary/Objective
To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of activities and programming that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Facilitate programs in accordance with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) to ensure that every camper has a fun, safe, and meaningful experience at camp. Responsible for the planning and management of programs including arts, team building, and all-camp.

  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures.
  • Plan, direct, and supervise safe, fun, and educational activities.
  • Create and deliver educational, creative, and adaptive lesson plans for arts and team building activities which will appeal to a variety of age levels and learning styles.
  • Have a passion for nature and developing outdoor skills.
  • Adapt activities as necessary to create a progression based on the needs and experience of the participants.
  • Apply basic youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections.
  • Coordinate all-camp activities, camper activity choices, and special events in accordance with the weekly theme and camp goals.
  • Help coordinate daily and session schedules for activities areas, camper choice, and all-camp activities for campers and staff.
  • Train and supervise staff in activity areas and lesson plans to ensure safe and high-quality programming.
  • Evaluate abilities of staff and campers in activity areas and adapt materials to suit needs.
  • Ensure that campers and staff know and follow safety and educational procedures in activity areas.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants in activities. Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers at all times.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
  • Set-up and manage the activity area facilities and materials.
  • Teach and monitor proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Complete initial and end-of-season inventory and store equipment safely.
  • Submit order requests for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials and adherence to budget.

Education and Experience
  • Age 21 or older preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all age levels.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting.
  • Current belaying/challenge course certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Current archery certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Assist in the development and lead the facilitation of session-long progressive programming tracks.
  • Experience facilitating arts and crafts, nature, STEM, outdoor skills, and team building activities.
  • Experience creating and implementing lesson and activity plans preferred.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise staff.
  • Current CPR/first aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be willing to become a member of Girl Scouts
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred.
  • Must be able to pass State and National background check.
Work Environment
Operates in a professional camp environment and will live on site. This role occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Requires ability and willingness to work in various activity areas at camp in all types of weather including rain, extreme heat, and cold. Must be able to move around the camp property to assist campers in their activities and spend a majority of hours each day standing and interacting with children.
Work Schedule
  • Position requires flexibility with schedule, typical schedule is Sunday through Friday, though some Saturdays may be required.
  • Position requires living on site and working evenings
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees the activity assistants.
Compensation
  • Room and board
  • $75 per day (position requires a 6-day workweek)

Camp Linden: June 7th through August 9th or 22nd, 2024
