Hiring Range: $22.79-$24.75
Work Schedule: Generally works up to 28 hours per week; ability to work evenings and weekends regularly; schedule may vary.
NATURE OF WORK
The Town of Windsor Museums' mission is to build community through creativity and discovery. As part of the Culture Division of the Windsor Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department, the Museums consist of the Art & Heritage Center, the town's original 1909 Town Hall that now functions as an exhibit and program space; and the Windsor History Museum, a collection of original buildings including the town's 1882 Train Depot, which houses historical exhibits. The Town of Windsor Museums' collections include over 40,000 artifacts including agricultural tools, household items, railroad artifacts, photographs, textiles, and ephemera. The Museums seek to provide exceptional educational and interpretive experiences focusing on local history, nature education, and art.
The Recreation Specialist - Museum Exhibitions will assist Culture Division staff in aspects of museum work including exhibition coordination and curation, collections care, and program development and implementation. The Exhibits Specialist may be asked to complete other duties to support the Culture Division and the Town of Windsor Museums including, but not limited to, creating social media content, performing research, staffing the facilities during open hours, helping during community events, and participating in larger Parks, Recreation & Culture initiatives. The Recreation Specialist - Museum Exhibitions provides excellent and friendly customer service to every person who visits the Museums.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Museum Curator to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The individual in the Recreation Specialist - Museum Exhibitions role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties with or without reasonable accommodations.The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Coordinate planning, communications, installation, and deinstallation of exhibitions at multiple locations.
  • Work with third party organizations to coordinate travelling exhibitions including shipping, installation, and contracts.
  • Assist Museum Curator with Museum collections including, but not limited to, new accessions, data entry, archival work, research, and deaccessions.
  • Develop new exhibition ideas and work to update and improve existing long-term exhibitions.
  • Maintain collections supplies for exhibitions, education, and general office use.
  • Open and close Museums during regular hours and act as gallery attendant/docent, while welcoming, orienting, and offering interpretation of current exhibitions to visitors.
  • Facilitate and assist volunteers while they are working in the Museum facilities.
  • Adhere to town policies, standards, and regulations including but not limited to proper attire, safety procedures, and overall professionalism.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related to essential job functions.
  • Completes educational and certification opportunities in order to remain abreast of current methods and procedures in museum education and interpretation.
  • Assisting other departments/divisions as necessary.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous experience in museum work, library science, education, or equivalent is preferred
  • Knowledge of Past Perfect Museum software is preferred
  • Associates Degree or minimum two years of college courses in related field preferred
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor's standards
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, and timely manner both verbally and written when dealing with town employees, citizens, customers and vendors.
  • Ability to interact with all age groups; this may include instruction, communication of rules and regulations and enforcing policies.
  • Demonstrate time management skills by beginning and completing assigned shifts and/or utilizing program time effectively.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving facility guests with patience, good judgment and with diplomacy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must have the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, e.g. copier, fax machine and personal computer.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and town staff. Including the ability to follow directions and demonstrate professional behavior.
  • Demonstrated personal effectiveness, credibility, thoroughness, flexibility, and collaboration skills in adhering to and advancing the town's vision, mission, and values.
  • Demonstrates pride, enthusiasm, and positive attitude in dealings with the public.

Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment: Position requires use of various equipment including, computers/tablets/other digital equipment, calculators, copiers, printers, fax machines, multi-line telephone systems
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, sitting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. The employee is also required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
The employee may be subject to the following environmental conditions: inside, such as an office setting; outside, with little to no effective protection from weather.
This position is not considered safety sensitive because the individual does not operate a commercial motor vehicle, as a regular function of his/her daily job duties.
