DUTIES DESCRIPTION: Under direction of the Museum Manager, the Archives/Museum Assistant will help to develop and implement projects within the HSG Museum & Archives. Projects may include organizing and cataloging collections, digitizing photographs, creating spreadsheets, updating databases, and conducting research within the HSG Archives. The Archives Assistant may also help with occasional public programs and community outreach.
The schedule for this position is flexible, some weekends or evenings may be required depending on museum events or meetings. Up to one day per week may be worked remotely.
This position is grant-funded through the remainder of 2024. There is potential for the position to continue beyond that time but it is not guaranteed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Prefer Library Science, Museum Studies, History, Historic Preservation or related field); recent or near completion of degree accepted
- Experience working in a museum, archives or library as an employee or volunteer would be beneficial
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to pivot between job tasks as priorities shift and complete assignments as needed to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media platforms
- Commitment to the mission and values of the HSG Museum & Archives
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This person must be able to work with archives and general office equipment. This position requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, stretching above head, and repetitive movements of the arms and shoulders for extended periods of time up to 8 hours per day. The candidate must have good dexterity and hand coordination when performing work tasks. Must be comfortable working in a religious institution and have the ability to move freely in the building and regularly lift/carry up to 25 pounds. The Archives/Museum Assistant must be able to perform repetitive tasks with or without reasonable accommodation.
