Part-Time Visitor Services Assistant Manager - Westmoreland Museum of American Art
The Part-time Visitor Services Assistant Manager supervises the Visitor Experiences staff, setting the example for excellent customer service, while ensuring a secure and safe facility for our visitors and the protection of the Museum’s assets and collection. This candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a passion for art and a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all museum visitors. As part of this part-time role, this individual is greeting our visitors at The Museum’s Welcome Desk during our open business hours, Wednesday through Sunday, and evening hours as required for after hours programming.
Responsibilities:
1. Manages the Visitor Experiences staff daily to ensure full coverage for museum hours and special events.
2. Keep Visitor Experiences staff informed of upcoming exhibitions, programs, events and other information of interest to the visitor.
3. Work with Senior Manager of Visitor Services to plan year-round staff training programs featuring customer service, public relations, safety, education and security components. Responsible for implementing training program.
4. Approves, updates, maintains, and stocks checklists, Visitor Experiences materials, updating the Gallery Host manual, and others procedural information.
5. Maintains and manages the Welcome Desk, setting the example for quality customer service. These duties include:
a. Opens and closes Museum as needed.
b. Provides security for the lobby; monitors people coming in and exiting the front door; addresses emergencies with confidence and authority.
c. Treats all visitors with inclusiveness
d. Ensures visitor safety.
e. Processes and records all monetary transactions by handling money, accurately making change quickly, and accurately tracking and recording the register and event cash boxes.
f. Over sees and records accurate visitor logs and count for the day, including tours and special events.
g. Other duties as requested by the Senior Manager of Visitor Services.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years visitor or customer service experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Experience with staff development and training, team building, and ability to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of management and staff.
- Effective communication with visitors (children and adults), volunteers and museum staff in a courteous and professional manner. Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
- Demonstrated cash handling and record keeping abilities following internal procedures.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office; ability to use Outlook Calendar and Outlook email required.
- CPR/AED certified. Must be able to take and pass training to obtain certification. Museum will provide training if candidate does not have certification.
- Ability to occasionally move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Flexibility to work part-time hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as required.
