BFSA Environmental Services, a Perennial Company (BFSA) is an environmental services management firm that has been providing archaeological, historic preservation, paleontological, and biological consulting services to agencies and private sector clients throughout the west United States since 1977. BFSA provides specialized environmental consulting services that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
BFSA is looking for an Architectural Historian to conduct archival research, historic-age property and building descriptions and evaluations, photographic surveys, and preparation of technical documents for submittal to local, state, and federal agencies for environmental review. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Candidates should have a strong attention to detail, ability to adapt to new writing styles/formats, and the ability to operate under strict deadlines. Professional and consistent communication with the editing team, office staff, clients, and lead agencies will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Experience in evaluating historic-era properties under NRHP, CRHR, and local-level designation criteria and integrity requirements
- Ability to research, develop, and write historic context statements
- Knowledge of the California Historical Resources Information System, experience in processing records search data, and familiarity with the Built Environment Resource Directory maintained by the California Office of Historic Preservation
- Assessing CEQA impacts/Section 106 effects regarding historical resources/historic properties in consideration of federal, state, and local requirements
- Experience in working with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, and an ability to apply those standards in federal, state, and local regulatory settings
Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in history, architectural history, historic preservation, or a related field
· Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for architectural history
· Strong writing and research skills
· Extensive experience with Microsoft Office programs; experience with Photoshop or Illustrator a plus
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Must have excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, including mastery of English language, grammar, structure, and punctuation
· Familiarity with using GIS software
