Position Summary
The Architect is responsible for overseeing architectural projects for the university campus, ensuring strict compliance with relevant building codes and safety regulations. This role, reporting to the University Architect, involves collaborating closely with the Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) teams, specifically the Planning & Design group to develop conceptual diagrams, designs, renderings and presentations to address institutional needs for review by multiple members of the Washington University leadership team. These preliminary analyses and studies will then be used to advance necessary capital projects that foster learning, innovation, research, and the health, safety and welfare needs of the institution.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with internal FPM stakeholders to understand the university's architectural needs and develop preliminary studies and design concepts.
  • Creates architectural floor plans, elevations, and three-dimensional studies using software platforms such as; Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino.
  • Ensures that the design proposals align with the university's vision, aesthetic, and functional requirements.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and consultants, to manage architectural projects from conception to completion.
  • Prepares and reviews project budgets, timelines, and schedules.
  • Conducts site visits and inspections to monitor project progress and quality of construction.
  • Coordinates with project teams to address any design modifications or issues that may arise during the construction phase.
  • Prepares detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents using appropriate software tools.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of architectural projects, including contracts, change orders, and project correspondence.
  • Prepares progress reports and presentations for university officials, providing updates on project status, milestones, and budget.
  • Ensures that architectural designs adhere to local, state, and federal building codes and safety regulations.
  • Reviews plans and specifications to identify potential safety hazards and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule with an average of three days in the office each week and two days working from home.
  • General office atmosphere with travel among campuses.
  • Will travel to conferences as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architecture and ten plus years of related experience.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong experience with the following software platforms; PhotoShop, Revit, V-Ray or Lumion animation software, SketchUp or Rhino modeling software and MIRO presentation tools.
  • Good working knowledge of applicable building and life safety codes.
  • Strong working knowledge with MS software suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related field.
  • Eight years of experience.
  • Valid architectural license in the State of Missouri.

G15
Salary Range
$82,500.00 - $145,200.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
