Your familiarity with these environments will be helpful in providing relevant support and guidance to teens facing similar challenges and opportunities.

About the role

Our virtual mentoring program is dedicated to empowering the next generation by providing them with support, accountability, and valuable life skills from people who “get it.” As a mentor, this role requires individuals to be able to relate to teens with shared lived experience. Specifically, we are looking for mentors who understand what it is like growing up in Sonoma county or other rural, agricultural communities in California. We believe that mentorship plays a crucial role in shaping young minds and fostering personal growth. As a virtual program, you can participate from anywhere, bringing your enthusiasm and knowledge to aspiring teens who need it the most.

All Appa mentors will undergo extensive training in evidence-based support techniques to provide exceptional mentorship to teens. In addition to providing weekly individual support to adolescents (13 - 18 years old), mentors will attend weekly supervision meetings led by a licensed therapist to enhance their skills and build community among fellow mentors.

  • Culturally competent, humble, and curious
  • Competent in understanding diverse communities (e.g., geographic, demographic, etc. diversity)
  • Gifted at connecting and relating to Diverse Teens (including racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and neurodevelopmental diversity)

Where you’ll make an impact:

  • You’ll work a part-time, flexible, contractor schedule of ~11 hours/week
  • Flexibility to mentor teens when and where it works for you between the hours of 3pm to 8pm (Pacific Time) via live video and text-based chat
  • Be an active member of our mentor community by participating in weekly mentor group consultation
  • Drive our mission forward by providing critical feedback to our operations team as we build and scale our innovative model to reach millions of teens
  • Thoughtfully integrate fun and creativity into virtual mentoring relationships with teens
  • Engage in and provide feedback on company trainings and tools to positively impact the day-to-day work experience
