POSITION TITLE: Counselor
F.L.S.A. Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in Counseling and Missouri School Counseling Certificate
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
DESCRIPTION ELEMENTARY:
The Elementary Counselor helps students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment. In order to coordinate a comprehensive counseling program, the Elementary Counselor must work closely with the staff and administration. The School Counselor provides support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for managing the placement of assigned students; providing information and recommendations to parents and students; and assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement.
DESCRIPTION SECONDARY:
The secondary School Counselor implements the MissourI Comprehensive Guidance Program, focusing on the four primary strands: Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support. More specifically, activities within these strands include: providing support to the instructional process with responsibility for helping students develop career/life goals; support student academic achievement; provide individual and group counseling to students; providing support during a crisis; work with community agencies; and partner with parents, teachers, support staff and the community.
