Essential Functions and Objectives:
Supports the design of DPS BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE applications and architecture. Assists on projects with other business and senior IT management to understand and prioritize data and information requirements. Optimizes the performance of BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE tools by defining data to filter and index to focus on the client's immediate need. Contributes to the design, user requirements, documentation and strategic implementation of systems to be used by the teachers, principals, and staff of Denver Public Schools.
- Document business and technical requirements by collaborating with teachers, principals, and academic staff who will be users of the system.
- Capture requirements in a succinct, precise manner to identify attainable project deliverables and to provide actionable, analytical reporting requirements.
- Elicit/detect and translate critical needs of stakeholders into meaningful business and technical requirements.
- Coach prospective and actual system users into visioning the system; quantify and document business process optimization opportunities and overall value.
- Develop data/information quality metrics and create testing methodology and criteria. - Transform business and technical requirements into meaningful and repeatable metrics/KPIs, reporting models, and process enhancements.
- Design and coordinate a curriculum for coaching and training clients in the use of BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE tools to enhance business decision-making capability.
- Function as a Business/IT liaison working closely with all levels of key academic officers and school based clients on key, strategic, tactical, and operational initiatives enterprise-wide.
- Develop standards, policies and procedures for the form, structure and attributes of the BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE tools and systems.
- Help balance interests of Academics, Business & IT and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years of experience with large and complex database management systems, business analysis tools and systems.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Work collaboratively with others on a team.
- High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
- Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.

- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff and students
- Knowledge of the latest versions of BI software, techniques, and practices.
- Research and share new ideas in BI and Enterprise Reporting Strategies.
- Knowledge of dashboard, portal concepts and best practices.
- Ability to develop preliminary ad hoc queries, standard reports, & graphs via a suite of applications and tools: e.g., ProClarity, MS SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services 2005, TM1, Cognos Impromptu, MS Excel 07, and various statistical packages.
- Ability to research current technology and develop District scenarios to justify proposed upgrades to DPS systems.
- Ability to converse in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to discuss issues at a technical or non-technical level, depending on the audience.
- Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, in all departments.
- Ability to contribute to a positive and cohesive DoTS team.
- Ability to read and interpret relevant manuals and information and to understand and troubleshoot a variety of programming techniques.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and occasionally deviate from established practices and procedures for new situations and problems.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions and complete assignments.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize project work, at times with interruptions.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
