General Summary:
This position is a part-time position. The primary function is to manage and oversee maintenance and daily care of the Amitabha Stupa, the surrounding property, including the road and parking area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the Amitabha Stupa and Tara Stupa; regular inspections of structural and surface condition. Report and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Regular inspection and maintenance of other sacred objects on property, i.e. the wooden Buddha statue, prayer wheels, medicine wheel.
- Maintenance of the Stupa areas. Organize regular sweeping of the path around the Stupa, the flagstone steps around the kiosk, and the platform floor. Regular raking of the gravel areas. Remove perished or wilted offerings, hazardous items, etc, from the Stupa altar areas.
- Regular inspection and maintenance of gates, platform, awning, security cameras, and signage. Coordinate necessary replacement and repairs.
- Ensure integrity of the parking area, roads, and trails leading to and from the property and the Stupas. Ensure culvert is clear.
- Clear any excessive build-up of dead bushes, logs or other potential fire risk objects or materials.
- Dismantle and remove unauthorized structures, i.e. rock piles, etc.
- Ensure timely trash pick-up and removal.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, including coordinating workdays for larger projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with neighbors around property.
- Act as liaison with community and business operators to promote positive and cooperative relationships.
- Maintain relationships with existing vendors and direct work as needed.
- Communicate regularly with Administrative Assistant and Board through the Amitabha Stupa manager.
- Adhere to KPC policies and procedures governing expense requisition, management, and reimbursement.
- Safely operate and maintain any work equipment and vehicles. Keep repair records.
- Develop a Maintenance Schedule for all Repair & Maintenance for the Stupa and Peace Park assets and property.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Well organized and detail oriented.
- Committed to accurate and timely completion of work.
- Ability to develop efficient processes.
- Ability to prioritize work and follow tasks through to completion.
- Ability to work independently, with direction from a remote team of leaders located in Maryland.
- Hold current licenses to operate work vehicles.
- Ability to operate chain-saw and bobcat, etc a plus.
- Ability to bend, lift objects up to 50 lbs, rake, climb a ladder.
- Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly.
- Ability to lead a team of committed volunteers by directing work and developing and maintaining positive relationships.
- Ability to solve minor maintenance issues easily and independently.
- Ability to work with Word, Excel, Google docs, email and smartphone apps.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English required. Ability to speak Spanish, a plus.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Education and Experience:
Experience in construction, landcare management, handy maintenance, or related fields, and team leading are strongly preferred.
