Open Position: Agriculture Education Instructor - Russia High School

General Job Description:
The instructor will be responsible for the Agricultural Education program at Russia High School. The Agricultural Education program at Russia High School is a satellite of the Upper Valley Career Center District and is a brand new single teacher program beginning in the 24-25 school year. The program will consist of courses being taught 7th-12th grade. The instructor will prepare and conduct lessons for related and laboratory classes in Agricultural Science as well as Agricultural Production Systems as identified in the State of Ohio Agricultural Content Standards. The instructor is responsible for the safety and welfare of the students and for leadership of the FFA organization.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Instruct classroom and laboratory classes according to State Content Standards for grades 7-12.
  • Design and implement real world applications for Agriculture Education students.
  • Recruitment of students into the Agricultural Education courses and the FFA Chapter.
  • Ensure that a safe learning environment exists for all students.
  • Coordinate educational events and activities with academic teachers within the Russia School District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A valid teacher license or certification is necessary.
  • The instructor must have a strong and diversified background in animal and plant science, food science, animal nutrition, health and reproduction, livestock science, greenhouse management, communication, and mechanical principles, as well as agricultural technology.
  • The instructor must be a strong team leader and is expected to be actively involved in community activities within the Russia School District pertaining to Agricultural Education.
  • The instructor will be responsible for serving as the FFA advisor and assisting the members with planning and participation in FFA events and activities.
  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
Salary:
Appropriate placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will range from $48,678.00 (Class II, Step 0) to $80,934.00 (Class V, Step 10). Base contract is 187 days. Minimum workday is 7 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break . One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

State Teachers Retirement System, Worker's Compensation, paid sick/personal leave, partial tuition reimbursement, and tax-sheltered retirement contributions. Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.
Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
