• Good physical health. This is a prerequisite for caregivers at work with young children.
• Emotional maturity. The caregiver needs to be a person so secure with in themselves that they can function with principles rather than with perceptions. They can exert authority without requiring submission. They can work experimentally but not at random and they can admit mistakes without feeling humiliated.
• Kindness. Kindness and unconditional love is so important for good caregivers. You have to have a big heart whenever you’re trying to help children help themselves. A good caregiver knows what child at which moment requires a warm and close concern. He or She is approachable and friendly. She listens well to the child, gives support as needed and also shares and laughter with the child, not at the child.
• Courage. This means a strong, willing person who is able to work through whatever to care for the children.
• Integrity. They need to have a well-knit personality along with honesty and everything that they do.
• Self-awareness. As caregivers develop self-awareness, they improve each quality mentioned as well as self evaluation. Caregivers may help each other out towards self awareness through constructive criticism with mutual trust and respect. Quiet reflection and professional counseling may help as well. Working with children will sometimes stir up emotions from our own childhood. They need to be aware of their influence when at work with children and steer their own behavior accordingly.

• Helping a child to make constructive, independent choices towards self disciplined creativity depends by showing genuine and caring respect for that child and his way of working, his way of learning.
• Show unfeeling warm respect and courtesy to children as a group into each child as a unique and unrepeatable individual.
• You must have a real knowledge of child development, as well as personal caregiver qualities and or security, integrity, and self-awareness.
• Make a close observation of the individual children throughout their day.
• Be a good model for the children. A large part of the children learning is copying what the caregiver does or says

• Employer paid CPR and 1st aid every 2 years
• Pass a background check
• Provide a health assessment and negative tuberculosis test (employer will pay and assist with this)
• 16 hours of continuing education courses per year (employer will pay and assist with this)
• Must be at least 16 years of age
