The After School Counselor supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Specifically, the After School Counselor II is responsible for providing physical, mental, and spiritual growth and development opportunities for each child in the program. This position will act in a lead role to oversee student check-in and parent communication.

The hours for this position are from 2:15pm – 6pm
- Supervise and manage the incoming and outgoing kids; facilitate the check-in and out of all students during the day of afterschool.
- Ensure the safety of all students.
- Manage parent communication; communicate with parents on minor behavioral incidents that occur in the program, call parent phone calls when necessary to report sick children.
- Report all program changes or parent concerns to the Site Coordinator, Youth Program Director, or Executive Director.
- Assist in always maintaining program standards regarding Quality Check Standards and Licensing Regulations
- Assist in School’s Out Days, Holiday Camp and Special Events as required.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records at all times to include:
- Attendance Rosters Daily (Arrivals and Dismissal)
- Medication Logs
- First Aid Logs
- Discipline Reports
- Incident Reports
- Closing Checklist
- Assists in all areas of the branch and association operations as requested by management.
- Always build positive relationships with children, parents, and co-workers.
- Create an environment that promotes belonging, achievement, and relationships.
- Build and maintain order and enthusiasm in a group.
- Maintain equipment and facilities and use only in an appropriate manner.
- Attending quarterly YMCA of Greenville Training events.
- Adhere to all program rules as outlined in the Staff Manual, Personnel Policy and Code of Conduct and Risk Management Manual, and any other program-specific guidelines.
- Able to drive a 14-passenger bus, if over 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license, when programming allows.
- Encouraged to participate in the YMCA’s annual support scholarship campaign.
- Attend all required staff training and meetings, including New Staff Orientation, and CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Child Abuse Prevention within the first 30 days of hire date.
Other expectations
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- High School Diploma, GED, or a senior in high school.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of 1 season of experience or years working with youth.
- Minimum of 6 months previous leadership experience.
- Requires the ability to be a good role model and to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
