Summary

The Program Cycle Support (PCS) Associate Award is a five-year, global activity, under the Implementer-Led Design, Evidence, Analysis and Learning (IDEAL) Award. PCS supports implementing partners (IP) to design and implement evidence-based, effective, efficient, and sustainable activities funded by USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance that result in substantial food and nutrition security gains.

The Advisor, Events and Knowledge Management (KM) is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing events focused on learning and knowledge sharing for food security programming. In this role, you will work closely with technical staff to ensure that PCS’ KM efforts, with a focus on events (online and in-person), are meaningful for the intended audiences, support achievement of objectives, and are of high quality. Most events take place outside of the United States with a focus on countries in Africa. You will also coordinate closely with IDEAL and other Associate Awards and support related events for these awards as assigned and appropriate. 

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Events Management (70%)

  • Lead the strategic planning of PCS online and in-person (domestic and international) events to ensure well prepared and high-quality events, including supporting technical staff to create a detailed implementation plan with clear roles and responsibilities for the team.
  • Oversee and manage the entire planning and implementation process for each event, including outreach and dissemination, logistics, and post-event activities. Logistics will include, but not be limited to:
    • Online platform and registration management
    • Coordinating and preparing event support staff
    • Producing meeting materials
    • Preparing facilitation guides
    • Producing meeting materials
    • Day-of facilitation and back-end support
    • Complete post-event tasks
  • Ensure meetings and events are designed to be interactive, engaging, and participatory.
  • Engage and communicate with key stakeholders throughout the planning process, including donor representatives, partner organizations or mechanisms, presenters/speakers, vendors, and others.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members across PCS, IDEAL and associate awards methods, tools, and best practices for strategic event planning, design, and implementation.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to PCS’ Lead Administrator on the production of events.

Knowledge Management and Documentation (30%)

  • Develop and oversee PCS’ knowledge sharing strategy, including creation of learning and reflections briefs, case studies, infographics, and other program materials that promote and increase understanding of PCS’ work.
  • Responsible for the copy-editing of PCS’ reports, learning briefs, and other public documents.
  • Mentor PCS staff on effective technical writing.
  • Lead the development of PCS’ quarterly progress and annual reports, including coordinating any necessary team input.
  • Contribute to PCS’ learning culture through analysis of data and information from events (surveys, polls, and discussions) to inform PCS’ future events and ongoing learning.
  • Contribute to PCS’ knowledge capture strategy, including, but not limited to, independent qualitative outreach to USAID and implementing partners staff following each PCS event as a central part of PCS ongoing process monitoring.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proven successful track record of collaborative work and professional flexibility
  • Proven ability to successfully meet aggressive deadlines and navigate multiple competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic event planning, design, and implementation – both online and in-person
  • Demonstrated experience in applying participatory and engaging event facilitation techniques and structures
  • Demonstrated experience running webinars, preferably using Zoom
  • Willingness and proven ability to learn new software applications
  • Willing and able to travel up to 50%—primarily internationally
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional proficiency in French
  • Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from event data and information to improve and inform future events
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams, Miro, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, Drupal
  • Prior experience with USAID-funded programs, including contracts, is a desirable advantage
  • Experience working in a developing country in international development or emergency programs
  • Familiarity with food security programming

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.  Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
