ADULT EDUCATION ENGLISH AS A NEW LANGUAGE (ENL) FACILITATOR
ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:
The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
- Facilitation and support of a large of Adult Education ENL program;
- Assists adult ENL programs and staff with meeting yearly NYSED and federal grants objectives and benchmarks;
- Provides programmatic and educational supports to teachers, case manages, and ancillary personnel related to the West Side Learning Center (WSLC);
- Maintains, updates, audits, and supports division wide record keeping in physical files and online record keeping known as ASISTS;
- Works with community organizations, local education institutions, and business and industry to form positive, collective relationships that benefit refugees, immigrants, and native-born language learners;
- Responsible for creating a culturally and linguistically responsive, meaningful and active environment around refugees, immigrants, and native-born English language learners;
- Coordinates staff development training with regional Central Southern Tier RAEN and school district's professional development department;
- Supports and recommendation needs for annual budget, classroom and space needs;
- Manages the selection, evaluation and purchase of Adult Education ENL textbooks, online software, and instructional materials with assigned curriculum team;
- Works as an active listener and action agent between K-12 and Adult Education to support the district and Board of Education's collective mission and vision for students, parents, and community;
- Recognizes the importance of and supports the district's equity, inclusion and belonging effort to ensure all adults, families, community, and district staff will be successful;
- And, other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- NYS K-12 or Adult Education Teaching Certification.
- K-12 or Adult Education ENL experience preferred.
- Tenure and minimum 5 years urban teaching experience.
SALARY: Starting at $53,000 as per Unit 1 Contract.
