Job Description
SUMMARY
The Emergency Medical Services Program Instructor provides EMS education in all aspects in both the classroom lab, and clinical instructions. This individual is responsible for overall classroom and laboratory instruction of EMS students at all levels. Emergency Medical Services Instructor holds a twelve-month position. This individual must maintain current knowledge of the profession and Emergency Medical Services discipline. This individual cooperates with the program director in periodic review and revision of course materials, objective, and outcomes for this program. This is a tenure track position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Those requirements outlined in the South Plains College Faculty Handbook for Program Coordinators/Directors and instructors, as well as those special requirements related to the Emergency Medical Services Program.
Correlates instruction as assigned by the program director and department chair.
Cooperates with program director in review and revision of course material, objectives, and outcomes for the program.
Maintains current State and/or National EMS certification.
Maintains current knowledge of the Emergency Medical Services field.
Provides students with didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction/supervision.
To carry out all assigned duties as determined by the Program Director and administration of the institution.
To be readily available to assist students in all aspects of EMS education.
To maintain a professional attitude toward students, fellow faculty, and clinical affiliations and their employees.
Assist students in all aspects of the EMS Education Experience (classroom, lab, & Clinical).
Must truthfully, without discrimination or prejudice, evaluate the student's classroom, lab & clinical performance in a manner that the student will have ample time to respond and focus on the areas needing improvement.
Participates in ongoing professional development, community and social activities that improve the individual, college and community.
To perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Instructor must be competent in the current principles and practices of Emergency Medical Services. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
• Certified Texas Paramedic with three years recent field experience or Nationally Registered Paramedic
Preferred:
• A.A.S. in related field from a regionally accredited institution,
• B.S. In EMS, Education, or Business discipline.
• Community college teaching experience.
• Three years recent experience in pre-hospital EMS.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, Instructor certifications
• TDSHS or NAEMSE Instructor
• Basic or Advanced Course Coordinator
