Job Summary
Sotheby’s Institute of Art is currently seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for the Collegiate and Professional Group to lead short, intensive non-credited courses on Luxury and its Markets at the New York campus with the possibility of more course engagement in other departments of this dynamic company division in the future. Adjunct Faculty instructors for Short Courses are responsible for all course planning and synchronous instruction in-person at SIA- NY's campus located in Midtown Manhattan.
Teaching Responsibilities
Develop the course syllabus --including learning outcomes, lectures, readings, course projects, and site visits, as well as inviting guest speakers if applicable -- using a standardized template to be provided by SIA.
Respond to syllabus feedback from the SIA Academic team as part of course development while adhering to set deadlines.
Select appropriate readings and resources to coincide with each daily module in the syllabus. Provide PDF scans of readings.
Invite approved guest speakers who add substantively to the course content. All guest speakers must be approved by SIA in advance and their fees must fit within the course budget.
Make the syllabus, readings, and other course-related content available in a standardized manner through the learning management system, Canvas, by working with the program manager(s), coordinator(s), and/or SIA’s Digital Learning team.
Teach the course in-person in New York City. This means taking the lead in all aspects of the course including classroom lectures or discussions, site visits, and guest speaker appearances.
Respond to student inquiries promptly and provide positive, constructive feedback.
Provide written feedback on any final projects assessing students according to Institute policies.
Submit names of students eligible for the Certificate of Completion at the end of the course.
Review and abide by policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook and comply with mandatory training.
Qualifications
Required
At minimum, candidates must have a strong, demonstrated knowledge of Luxury and Its Markets, including luxury business, key product areas, branding, and luxury marketing. Terminal degree or equivalent experience required. Three professional references are required.
Preferred
Experience teaching professional-level students. Work experience in the luxury sector strongly preferred. Candidate should have excellent written, verbal, and digital communication, and organizational skills. An understanding of learning management systems is helpful.
Instructional Dates:
The Adjunct Faculty for the Luxury and its Markets course will initially be engaged for one (1) one-week short course, starting (early) summer 2024. Depending on the course's success, it may be offered again in subsequent fall, spring, and summer terms. Additional teaching opportunities may also be offered in other departments.
Language Skills
While no special language skills are required for the position, applicants should be capable of upholding the highest standards of written and spoken English.

Teaching Fee
$2,500 per 5-day full-time course. No travel or housing stipend is offered.
