Division/Department Information
The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University invites applications for an adjunct position in Graphic Design, to begin September 2021. The Department is located on the Queens campus in New York City, and offers BFA degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Fine Art, a BA in Art History and an MA in Museum Studies. The mission of the Department, since the first degree program was offered in 1963, is to provide a rich and challenging educational environment that emphasizes the creation of visually sophisticated works and concurrently develops the whole person: intellectually, ethically, and critically. Students in the 132-credit NASAD accredited Graphic Design program complete a rigorous program of coursework followed by a capstone course and internship or thesis.
Responsibilities
The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University in Queens, NY is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Typography. This is a project-based studio course taken by sophomore BFA Graphic Design and Illustration majors. The course focuses on the use of text and type in a variety of design outputs rather than on the design of typefaces. Classes meet in person for 2:50 two times per week at our Queens, New York campus.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Graphic Designer who is currently working in the field and has college level teaching experience. Successful candidates will be able to teach typography and publication/editorial design and will be able to show these competencies in the work featured in their own portfolio. Candidates should have a Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent industry experience.

Salary
The 2023-2024 academic year hire-on rates for Adjunct Faculty are as follows:
Instructor: $1250
Asst Professor: $1350
Assoc Professor: $1450
Professor: $1650
