Function of Position:
Adjunct faculty prepare and teach courses in the department, develop new educational materials, and assist with the assessment of student learning, as appropriate. Classes may be assigned at the Public Safety Training Facility (or other sites, as appropriate). Adjunct faculty report to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program Manager of the Public Safety Training Facility. The successful candidate will bring a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor a diverse population of MCC students as they pursue educational and career goals.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare all aspects of a course from its development, create instructional outlines and materials, oversee delivery of educational content in assigned courses, obtain necessary resources, schedule approved certified lab instructors, assess student attendance and progress
- Develop and update curriculum, including course descriptions, course syllabi, class schedules and methods of course delivery (including online) that meet the requirements of the student, College, Medical Director, New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH), and any accrediting bodies rules and regulations
- Provide students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in Emergency Medical Services
- Encourage students' participation in class activities
- Develop and implement student assessment strategies in the areas of cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains
- Establish and maintain an organized and disciplined classroom environment
- Provide students with assistance, guidance, and counseling as needed
- Complete required end of course paperwork for NYS DOH and MCC EMS Administrative Staff records
- Engage in professional development activities that provide awareness of pre-hospital emergency care trends and issues
- Maintain up-to-date curriculum and documentation to meet program requirements
- Possess and keep current the following certifications:
- NYS CIC (Certified Instructor Coordinator)
- EMT - Basic
- Ensures that all aspects of the course follow the New York State Department of Health course guidelines and principles
- Keep informed of changes, advances, and problems in the pre-hospital emergency care discipline
- Represents the PSTF as appropriate
- Maintains documentation of training, objectives, lesson plans, media, and testing instruments for the program as required
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Emergency Medical Services Education Programs

Required Qualifications:
- Earned associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services, Education, Health Science, Public Safety, or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution or higher
- Certified or eligible by the New York State Department of Health, as an Emergency Medical Services Instructor/Coordinator
- Experience teaching pre-hospital Emergency Medical care
- Appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience
- Demonstrate knowledge of the current National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards
- Current NYS DOH certification at or above the level of teaching assignment (EMT or Paramedic)
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to effectively utilize classroom and support technologies
- Professional writing and verbal communication skills
- Maintain instructor credentials
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or a related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
- American Heart Association certification as BLS Instructor or higher
- Previous experience teaching EMS at the basic level
- Team building skills to effectively train, evaluate, motivate, and build an effective service-oriented team
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently
Additional Information:
Pay Rate for Fall 2023 & Spring 2024: Determined on adjunct rank and ranges from $1,150- $1,403 per contact hour
