Adjunct Faculty, Dental Hygiene

Job Description:

Function of Position:

Adjunct faculty prepare and teach courses in the department, develop new educational materials, and assist with the assessment of student learning, as appropriate. Classes may be assigned for in-person instruction on the Brighton campus, at clinical extension sites, or an online or hybrid modality, as needed. Adjunct faculty report to the chairperson/program director of the Health Professions Department and the Dental Studies Program. The successful candidate will bring a passion for teaching and a desire to support and mentor MCC students as they pursue educational and career goals.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge
• Teaches course(s)/section(s)/clinic(s) as outlined by the College contract, as available
• Teaches courses and evaluates student performance in the Dental Studies Programs as per guidelines set by the program and Monroe Community College
• Prepares Course Information Sheet/Syllabus/Outlines/Schedules in accordance with program and the College guidelines
• Prepares lesson plans and creates instructional materials and activities for student engagement
• Develops innovative teaching pedagogies to facilitate learning
• Establishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environment
• Maintains and submits student attendance records, grades, and other records according to the program and College guidelines
• Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design, as appropriate
• Actively engages in professional, pedagogical, and academic discipline professional development
• Demonstrates excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize workflow
• Assists program and department with projects and retention and completion initiatives
• Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the program director, as appropriate

Required Qualifications:

• Earned associate's degree in Dental Hygiene and/or earned dental degree from a CODA Accredited Program
• Earned bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
• Five years of practice experience as a dental hygienist or dentist
• Unencumbered NYS Dental Hygiene and/or dental license
• Current BLS CPR for Health Professionals Certification
• Ability to teach courses within the program
• Evidence of effective communication skills (interpersonal, speaking, and writing)
• Commitment to supporting an inclusive classroom environment
• Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
• Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college
• Evidence of proficiency with technology
• Experience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses
• Commitment to continued professional growth

Preferred Qualifications:

• Earned Master's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited higher education institution
• Teaching experience (1 year preferred)
• Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies
• Awareness of the value of technology as a tool for teaching
• Experience with computerized student record management
• Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

Additional Information:

Pay Rate for Fall 2023 & Spring 2024: Determined on adjunct rank and ranges from $1,150- $1,403 per contact hour

Monroe Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible temporary part-time faculty teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment efforts. Adjunct pools are open continuously and applicants are contacted/hired year-round for assignments based on college needs.
