Valley Manor Care Center is a part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

Schedule:
      Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, occasional weekends

About the job: Coordinate social, recreational, purposeful and spiritual activities to residents, whose needs
include psychological, physical and cognitive challenges.

Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with

1. Designs and implements a lifestyle plan for the entire building, including monthly scheduling of
activities for entire building and maintaining a supply of inventory of necessary materials. Programs
should include the following:
a. Physical activities (e.g., exercise, walks, group exercise with objects such as ball, parachute, etc.);
b. Arts and crafts;
c. Educational (e.g., news and current events);
d. Spiritual;
e. Special events (e.g., holiday parties, etc.);
f. Outings and trips;
g. Life skills (e.g., meal set up, dusting, folding/sorting clothing, sewing on buttons, etc.).
2. Responsible for the direction and training of Certified Nursing Assistants in implementing programs as
designed for the special program areas. This will be in coordination with administrative staff.
3. Manages monthly and yearly budgets for departments.
4. Attends training offered by the National Services office or other organizations (e.g., Alzheimer's
Association) in programming and creative ideas for an activity-focused philosophy.
5. Responsible for the IN2L (It's Never 2 Late) system and training the Residents on the program
incorporating the use of the internet and e-mail systems.
6. Coordinate all activities surrounding recruitment and planning for volunteer participation, including
volunteer recruitment, training, job assignment and recognition.
7. Responsible for the creation of the monthly resident newsletter and ensuring distribution to all in the
building as well as resident family members.
8. Other projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or
ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform
the essential functions.
1. Bachelor's Degree in therapeutic recreation; or bachelor's degree with major concentration in a human
service area; or completion of a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
2. Minimum two (2) years experience in a management position in a health care setting.
3. If operating company vehicle you must be twenty-one (21) years of age and meet the MVR organization
standards.
4. Able to understand and follow procedures, work assignments, instructions and prepare reports and
documentation.
5. Ability to work with varying levels of responsiveness.
6. Must possess a high level of flexibility and tolerance to adjust to changes in workloads, assignments,
hours and days (i.e., weekends, evenings, holidays, etc.).
7. Ability to teach and train on the use of the internet and have a knowledge base of computer programs
such as internet explorer and e-mail systems.
8. Previous activities/programming experience of one (1) year. Knowledge base of Alzheimer's dementia
and related memory loss.
9. Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and
documentation.
10. The program must be directed by a qualified professional.
11. A qualified life enrichment/therapeutic recreation specialist must:
Be licensed or registered by the state in which they are practicing;
Be eligible for certification as a therapeutic specialist or as an activities professional;
Has two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) years,
one of which was full-time in the activity program;
Is an OT or OTA;
Has completed a training course approved by the state.
