COMPENSATION RANGE: 76,000.00 - 80,000.00 USD per year

Position Summary
The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) is a forward-thinking student success operation committed to its role as the leading custodial unit guiding the student experience at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Staff members within DoSA are expected to positively contribute to our mission of supporting students in the co-curricular environment and provide an experience that inspires students academically, personally, and emotionally.
The Director supervises the unit of Student Activities and Fraternity & Sorority Life, and reports to the Executive Director of Student Engagement. They are responsible for creating a sense of belonging, encouraging student engagement, promoting a vibrant campus life, and supporting a curricular approach within the unit. The Director provides leadership and supervision to staff, oversees the day-to-day operations, and sets the vision for the Student Clubs and Organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and University Program Council. This position establishes policies and procedures which set the vision, direction, curriculum, and assessment methods for student leadership, involvement, and civic engagement at the University of Northern Colorado. This position works collaboratively across different areas of the university to facilitate integrated development of comprehensive student leadership, civic engagement, and involvement strategies. The Director will work collaboratively with other key university leaders to provide an engaging campus experience with high-quality services and facilities that ultimately support student sense of belonging, engagement, and success.
Job Duties
1. Unit Leadership and Strategic Planning
Provides strategic leadership to a comprehensive Student Activities program that includes clubs and organizations, leadership programs, civic engagement, and fraternity & sorority life, and the University Program Council. Responsible for complex, independent decision making to be sure program objectives are met. Accountable for developing and managing a substantial budget including personnel, operating expenses, and programming funds. Directs the consistent assessment of programs, services, and activities of Student Engagement to identify needs, measure outcomes, and improve service. Also responsible for unit assessment planning as it aligns with Division assessment standards. Represents DoSA on university committees. 40% (Essential Function)
2. Administration and StaffingOversight of an Assistant Director, Coordinator, Graduate Assistants, and the University Program Council. Provides leadership and supervision that ensures a high level of performance with a diverse team comprised of Student and full-time staff. Provides direction and evaluates operations, staff, programs, services, and activities to ensure that all areas within the unit are efficient and effective in meeting University processes, procedures, achieving stated goals and objectives and providing high quality customer service and student engagement opportunities. Directs policy and procedure development for the unit and assists with division-wide policy development. Ensures that all unit programs have comprehensive standards for operation that are regularly audited. Responsible for emergency response and risk management related to campus life. Responsible for investigations related to compliance and student code of conduct with clubs & organizations, including fraternity and sorority life. 30% (Essential Function)
3. Leadership Development and Civic EngagementDevelops the curriculum for a comprehensive leadership and civic engagement program that is foundational for Clubs and Organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Presidents Leadership Program, University Program Council, and student employment within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services. Works with other key leaders across the campus to plan for an engaging campus experience that supports student transition, sense of belonging, and success. Works with DoSA staff to develop a curricular approach to student life, leadership, and civic engagement that is integrated and intentional. 20% (Essential)
4. Facility and Technology Planning and ManagementProvide leadership for facility planning and management of facilities related to campus life, including comprehensive planning, renovation, and repair initiatives project identification, planning, administration, and management of fiscal resources within established funding allocations and University standards of quality and code compliance. Oversees the effective use of technology procured to support the operations of Student Life, especially administration and proficiency of the Engage software platform. 10% (Essential)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Student Affairs practice, budget management, professional and student staff supervision.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, and familiarity with publishing software.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Master's Degree or other advanced degree preferred, preferably in Higher Education and Student Affairs.

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
