Job Summary
The Accounts Payable Supervisor is a key leader within Murphy's Controller's organization. The leader will be responsible and oversee all day-to-day outsourced Accounts Payable along with various outsourced accounting activities for Murphy's global assets in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, and Vietnam. The Accounts Payable Supervisor will be the primary point of contact for all issues both internally and externally associated with invoice processing, vendor management and reconciliation. It is the Accounts Payable Supervisor's responsibility to continuously strive to improve processes, implement new technology, training and oversight of outsourced staff.
The Accounts Payable Supervisor will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
- Manage operations of the Accounts Payable department and other outsourced accounting activities with direct oversight of 12 outsource staff
- Primary point of contact with external vendors, all internal stakeholders, and work intimately alongside Treasury, Supply Chain, and other Operations Accounting teams
- Responsible for Vendor Master Data Governance associated with vendor banking, address, and contact information master data within SAP
- Manage invoice workflow based on delegation of authority, processing, and accuracy and timeliness of payments
- Provide monthly and ad hoc trend, variance, and other financial analysis along with performance metrics of outsource provider
- Familiarize with vendor contracts on terms, discounts, and penalties
- Steward of balance sheet for all AP Trade, AP Suspense, Marketing payable, and GRIR
- Responsible for global Accounts Payable policies, procedures, internal controls and SOX compliance
- Mitigate risk associated with fraud, duplicate payments, and interest and penalties associated with delinquent payments
- Responsible for innovative system and technological advancements
- Oversight of all vendor reconciliations, vendor audits, and 1099 reporting process
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum 10 years' experience public accounting, Accounts Payable or exploration and production (E&P) accounting
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Solid knowledge of E&P accounting
- Strong proficiencies in ERP system
- High levels of emotional intelligence and ability to lead and inspire others
- Master's degree in accounting or finance
- Previous leadership experience of personnel (direct and/or outsourced)
- SAP or similar ERP
- Great understanding of Procure to Pay workstream
- Familiar with third party tools such as Concur, Oversight, Power BI
- Understanding of upstream onshore and offshore operations
- Sarbanes Oxley knowledge
