Job description
This position will ensure that all accounting activities within the Forest Resource Division comply with the policies and procedures established by the State of Michigan as well as DNR policies and procedures. This position will ensure the division is adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The division has an extensive funding structure which includes several appropriations and restricted funds which require completing complex accounting functions and in-depth analysis of these funds. Some of the funding sources that FRD receives include Forest Development Funding, Game & Fish Protection Funding, Fire Equipment Funding, Forest Land User Charges, Wildlife Funding, Private Donations, General Fund, and Federal Funding. This position is responsible for oversight of all accounting activities including monthly and quarterly reconciliations and the year-end closing process for the division. This position performs reconciliations of timber sale revenue, bonds, and land use permits.
Position Description
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
Experience
Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.
OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
